CCTL have created a new section on our website: 'Teaching Remotely'. Our first new guide found there is ‘Moving Supervisions Online’.

This introductory guide addresses planning for and conducting online supervisions, including practical considerations about devices, platforms and tools, as well as structuring online conversations and giving feedback. We have also developed more detailed guides on a range of technological and educational issues, including setting up supervisions using videoconferencing, accessibility for students with disabilities and neurodiversity, guiding inclusive discussions and interactions, and some approaches to important supervision activities (such as group discussions and problem solving) which could be used to complement videoconferencing or to help students (and supervisors) if necessary. All of these more detailed resources are accessible from the main guide.

CCTL have developed this guide during the past week. We are grateful to Senior Tutors for their guidance as we developed this resource. Several Directors of Studies gave feedback and shared ideas; particular thanks go to Dr Andrew Rice (Computer Lab, Queens’). Our colleagues in University Information Services and the Disability Resource Centre were generous with their advice and time, and the ourcambridge team provided invaluable design help.

We welcome comments on this introductory guide, as well as suggestions for ways of helping supervisors share their ideas and experience with each other during the next months. Of course, we are all working remotely, so responses may not be immediate – but enquiries and suggestions will be welcome: enquiries@cctl.cam.ac.uk.
