Outputs from the APP PAR Project
Some of the projects carried out as part of the APP Participatory Action Research Project provided recommendations for discrete outputs, while others included recommendations that require broader institutional / policy change or adoption. On this page we highlight all of the specific outputs that have resulted from the APP Participatory Action Research Project to date.
Since the inception of this project, the student co-researchers have also been key contributors to University-wide events intended to foster discussion around teaching and learning, such as the Cambridge Teaching Forum and the (now annual) Diversifying Assessment Forum.
Cycle 1
- The Content Notes Guide was created in response to the Strand B: Content Notes project. This is a key resource provided in the Inclusive Teaching section of this website.
- The Black Advisory Hub was created in response to the Strand A: Advisory Hub project. Work is currently ongoing to expand upon the initial foundation of the Hub, with induction events for new students, staff development opportunities and the establishment of an advisory group to support this work.
- [Publication upcoming] The Anti-Racist Glossary was created in response to the Strand A: Anti-Racist Glossary project. The glossary will be hosted on the new Black Advisory Hub, another APP PAR Project output (see above).
- The Strand A: STEMM Subjects project was further developed in Cycle 2 by the Strand A: First-Year Transition project.
- A number of Cycle 1 projects fed into the development of the Cycle 3 Strand B: Self-Advocacy project.
- Student co-researchers representing four of the projects presented their findings and recommendations at the Annual Meeting for Directors of Teaching & Senior Tutors 2020.
Cycle 2
- The student co-researchers of Cycle 2 presented their findings and recommendations at the Cambridge Teaching Forum 2021 in a suite of roundtable sessions.
- The Strand A: Curricular Representation project was further developed in Cycle 3 by the Strand A: Decolonisation project.
- The recommendations that arose from Cycle 2 were presented for discussion and reflection at the Annual Meeting for Directors of Teaching & Senior Tutors 2021.
- A number of Cycle 2 projects fed into the development of the Cycle 3 Strand B: Self-Advocacy project. This project was presented at the Annual Meeting for Directors of Teaching & Senior Tutors 2022.
Cycle 4
- The Strand A student co-researchers of Cycle 4 designed, organised and ran a highly successful event:
Forum on Black awarding gaps and decolonisation - The event was launched by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bhaskar Vira, and featured a roundtable discussion chaired by Prof. Jason Arday and a keynote delivered by Dr Paul Ian Campbell.
- Other features of the event included a book cover exhibition, spoken word performance, and live illustration created of the event.
- The Strand B student co-researchers presented their work at the Cambridge Teaching Forum 2023. Their analysis of the research findings from previous cycles of the project was used to build a set of student personas, journey maps and vignettes to illustrate the challenges experienced by peers in navigating the Cambridge system, as well as the small interventions that might mitigate these.
Cycle 5
- Initial findings from Cycle 5 are expected to be disseminated from Michaelmas Term 2024.
