Ludvig Brekke

Highly Commended, Academic / College Representative

Ludvig took on the role of President of Trinity College Students’ Union in February 2020; the College shut down for the pandemic on 13 March 2020. This came as an enormous shock to the student body, with Trinity the first College to shut down and hasty departures required. The College counts itself as enormously fortunate in having Ludvig (and his colleague Ben Clarke) running the Students’ Union. They managed to navigate an exceptionally difficult path between representing the students’ interests while also appreciating the difficult position the College found itself in.

Their professionalism and calm in the face of an onslaught that no student representatives have had to deal with since the second world war was truly astonishing. They were constructive, helping, supportive and encouraging. They remained patient as we planned and replanned freshers’ week (and delivered an extraordinary freshers’ week in the circumstances). And when disaster struck, and a student died in very difficult circumstances, Ludvig was with us offering advice on how to help the student body come to terms with the loss. Ludvig’s compassion, empathy, understanding, warmth and kindness has been exemplary.

We have learned a lot from Ludvig and shall miss him hugely when he graduates. He is a truly remarkable human being and very worth recipient of this recognition.

In 2020-21, Ludvig was a third-year Undergraduate reading Law at Trinity College.
