Tyra Amofah-Akardom

Highly Commended, Inclusive Practice

Tyra goes above and beyond for her fellow students and works hard to advance current teaching practices. Much of this important work goes unnoticed because it is behind the scenes, but some key highlights include being a speaker at the University’s Annual Race Equality Lecture (2020), and at the launch of the Black Advisory Hub (2021). The quality of her presentations represents hours of work and a passion for leaving the University a more inclusive place than she found it.

Within my own Tripos Tyra has made many similar contributions. As a student representative she has raised and developed ideas for making the lectures and reading lists more inclusive. She volunteered to be on a working group aimed at identifying areas of strength and improvement for supervisions, and many of her ideas became policy in the 2020-21 academic year.

Tyra truly is an amazing student and she has contributed to inclusion in extraordinary ways during her time here at Cambridge.

In 2020-21, Tyra was a third-year Undergraduate reading Education at Fitzwilliam College.
