Over the last few years the University has worked on several initiatives hoped to reduce our existing awarding gaps, such as:
- Pursuing participatory action research into the experiences of students
- Exploring the impact of assessment design and practice upon different student groups
- Facilitating events with opportunities for discussion amongst staff about awarding gaps in institutional and local contexts
- Integrating guiding principles for inclusive practices into our teacher development programmes and resources
- Prioritising inclusive teaching and learning in our Race Equality Action Plan
- Providing interactive dashboards of statistical data on awardings gaps on the Tableau Server
- Developing and resourcing opportunities to support students with initiatives like the Black Advisory Hub
- Establishing the Awarding Gaps Consultation Team to work with Faculties and Departments
This list of work underway is not exhaustive; we will be adding to it as we continue to collate examples of institutional practices aimed at eliminating our awarding gaps. We are also evaluating the impact of these and related initiatives.
The following pages illustrate some examples of effective practices undertaken in Departments and Colleges by course teams, individual course coordinators, lecturers and supervisors, and student-staff partnerships.
